As far back as the 2000s, Muniz ignited his love to explore car racing when he met  Dale Earnhardt, then Earnhardt joined him to drive the Daytona 500 pace car. In the racing, Muniz took advantage of the last lap collision of Ingo Rademacher and Aaron Person to come third. His racing career receive a boost when he signed a contract as a driver with Jensen Motorsport in 2005.  He also participated and completed fourteen races in the 2006 BMW USA series in which he failed to earn a point-scoring position.

He was chosen to compete in the annual Formula BMW World Final and came 11th out of the 36th drivers chosen. In 2007, Muniz took up his racing career to another level when he participated in the intense Champ Car Atlantic Series. Although his season was cut short by a wrist surgery before the race, he still managed to bag the Jovy Marcelo award due to his sportsmanship in 2008.
